Day's Field

Despite the current unremarkable quality of the site on the edge of the own and its lack of dominant features or structures, the field boundary itself has historic resonance and has a locally distinctive identity within the collective memory of the population. To this end, the hedges and trees surrounding the site have been emphasised as clear boundaries to avoid the danger of Day's Field being subsumed into a formless suburban sprawl.
This sense of place is further enhanced by the indicative layout, which is based around the employment of three important urban design concepts, a readily legible entrance avenue, perimeter blocks and a central green space. Provision is made for a possible footpath route through the site from area at the north east, should adjacent land be developed, thereby creating a permeable urban grain to enhance the pedestrian experience.
