Workhouse Conversion
Working closely with the client the practice converted a gloomy and foreboding derelict workhouse into a bright and welcoming family home.
A double height central hallway provides the circulation fulcrum whilst acting as an impressive reception room with an open fireplace and heated stone floor. The accommodation wings radiate from the hallway on two floors and provide spaces for work, sleep, study, play and entertaining.
The surrounding landscape and gardens were master planned responding to the house, its setting and its history and include a tennis court, ornamental canal, formal driveway approach, wildlife pond and an extensive flagged terrace with provision for outdoor cooking and entertaining.
Planting layouts including large areas of colourful perennial borders were designed and executed by onebeech Garden Design.
